The entertainment industry is a multibillion dollar industry. The prepaid billing mechanism and the entertainment industry have had a long history together.
Prepaid is often used as an alternative payment method to consume entertainment. iTunes is a great example. The iTunes prepaid card allows music lovers to use their prepaid credit to download their favourite songs at the I Tunes store. This application is especially appealing for a customer who otherwise does not have access to a credit card. Prepaid Entertainment has benefited immensely with the rise and adoption of both prepaid gift cards and prepaid credit cards.
Case in point the online entertainment segment. The casual gaming market is a huge industry with countless million people spending time playing anything from Tetris to golf at their favourite gaming site. Without access to a credit card many of the games and premium services would be off limits to a person but with the introduction of prepaid entertainment offerings – Pandora's Box is now open so to speak.
It's projected that the prepaid entertainment application will have large take up as being a key vehicle for the gift giving season.Parents, instead of buying a certain type of enetrtainemnt product for their kids can put the choice directly in theior kids hands with prepaid credit to their favorite toy store or website.
In recent news, Nintendo is launching prepaid cards which will be available at retail as a second option to credit cards for buying online Nintendo game credits.
The cards can be themed and can be used as marketing hooks by additionally offering some cool and exclusive collectible items.
