Fido Wireless Prepaid Canada.
Although Fido was acquired by Rogers Wireless in 2004 – for all intents and purposes it is run as its brand, complete with its own unique marketing messages and position within the Canadian cell phone industry.Fido has adopted "mans best friend" as its mascot. Its advertising campaigns have been very successful for the brand. Naturally the canine is a great mascot for the brand because Fido is a common name for a pet dog. Fido Solutions stands out in the Canadian market place as the "highest in customer satisfaction among contract service providers" .This became apparent after the J. D. Power and Associates 2007 Canadian Wireless Customer Satisfaction Study was released.
Case in point – (Fido until recently) were the only network carrier to bill by the second. The rest of the networks billed by the minute – meaning, when a customer make a 25 second call – that customer will be charged for a one minute call. By billing the second customers can save large amounts of dollars because they are only billed for the seconds that the phone call lasts.
Fido operates on the GSM network and was one of the key reasons that both Bell Mobility and Rogers Wireless were so aggressive, when they were bidding to purchase Fido in October 2004.Additionally, Fido was also the first network in North America to offer GPRS services.
As a result of the acquisition – Fido customers have expanded wireless coverage in Canada by leveraging the coast to coast coverage of its parent company Rogers Wireless.
Fido has a good prepaid cell phone offering, which includes call waiting, caller ID, call forwarding and call display. Customers can recharge their Fido airtime online on the Fido website. This feature increases the convenience factor of recharging prepaid airtime.
The cost of this expanded coverage is an extra $5 per month.Alternativley, if a customer chooses not to pay the $5 a month – roaming charges will apply when the Fido customers uses a cell connection where Fido does not have its own coverage. The cost to roam on Rogers Wireless network is 25 cents per minute.
Fido has a strong market share of the prepaid plan segment. Its market positioning is centred on its $1 a day unlimited incoming calls. In Canada all incoming cell phone calls are chargeable, so unlimited calls for 41 a day is a great marketing hook.
